Angelo Berbotto

J. Angelo Berbotto is a lawyer with extensive cross-border experience and a solid academic background.

Angelo holds an LLB (First Class Honours) from the University of Technology, Sydney (2004), and LLMs from the universities of Rome (La Sapienza) (2007), London (2019), and Complutense of Madrid (2020). Angelo was admitted to practice in NSW in 2005 and in England and Wales in 2010, where he worked for over a decade in Child Protection Law and Public Law. Between 2016 and 2018, Angelo served as Attorney-General of the British Overseas Territory of St. Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha. Upon returning to Australia in 2020, Angelo was Assistant Parliamentary Counsel before moving into private practice.

Angelo is fluent in Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, and is a NAATI certified translator in those languages. He also speaks intermediate German and Polish. These language skills enable Angelo to engage effectively with clients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, in particular with clients recently arrived to Australia with limited proficiency in English.

Angelo advises clients in Immigration Law, Wills and Estates, General Litigation, and Family Law cases. He is particularly passionate about advancing the interests of international students in Australia. Angelo’s decade-long experience in Child Protection Law and Public Law equips him with a nuanced perspective when handling sensitive family matters.

Angelo believes in giving back to the community. His commitment to promoting diversity in the legal profession. He has served as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Law Society of NSW.  Furthermore, Angelo served as National President of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) 2022-2024.
